The first step in ESD protection is ensuring the Fan Filter Unit (FFU) itself does not generate static electricity.
In a standard FFU, high-velocity air constantly rubs against the metal housing and the HEPA filter media. This continuous friction generates a massive static charge on the unit, which can arc or attract dust.
The DSX Passive Solution:
Anti-Static Housings: DSX Anti-Static FFUs are coated with specialized conductive or static-dissipative powder coatings. This engineered surface maintains a precise electrical resistance (typically between 10⁶ to 10⁹ Ohms).
Strict Grounding Paths: We integrate continuous grounding wires connecting the filter frame, motor, and housing. Any static electricity generated by air friction is instantly and safely conducted away to the facility’s earth ground, preventing the FFU from becoming a static hazard.
Passive prevention protects the FFU, but what protects the delicate wafers and PCBs sitting on the assembly line below? To eliminate static on your products, you must actively neutralize the air.
The DSX Active Solution:
DSX integrates high-performance Ionizer Systems directly into the aerodynamic exhaust of the FFU.
How it Works (Corona Discharge): The DSX Ionizer utilizes high-voltage emitter points to ionize the surrounding air molecules. It generates a perfectly balanced cloud of both positive (+) and negative (-) ions.
The Airflow Delivery: Because the ionizer is mounted directly below the HEPA filter, the FFU’s powerful, uniform laminar airflow acts as the optimal delivery vehicle. It pushes this dense cloud of ions straight down into the work zone, covering a wide and deep area.
Charge Neutralization: When these ions wash over a statically charged PCB or wafer, the product simply attracts the ions of the opposite polarity. The static charge is instantly neutralized to zero volts.
By eliminating the static charge on your product, you completely eliminate the magnetic pull of Electrostatic Attraction (ESA), preventing micro-particles from adhering to the surface.
Many cleanroom suppliers simply bolt a third-party ionizer onto an underpowered FFU. This creates a severe mismatch: if the airflow is too weak, the ions never reach the product; if the airflow is turbulent, the positive and negative ions collide and recombine before doing their job.
